Sanford, FL – A judge whose attempt to “friend” a woman whose divorce case she was close to deciding is facing a state investigation. As reported by The Orlando Sentinel, Circuit Judge Linda Schoonover sparked controversy after sending the social media request and was ordered off the case by an appeals court.

According to the report, prior to the ruling in January, several formal complaints had been filed with the Judicial Qualifications Commission against the judge seeking her removal from office for other matters as well.

Russell Hershkowitz, an Altamonte Springs attorney, is quoted as stating of Schoonover, “She’s got too much power and lacks the ability to control herself.” The judge has been barred from hearing Hershkowitz’ cases, along with those of 16 other lawyers.

Schoonover is reportedly set to be reassigned from divorce court to juvenile court in July.
