Los Angeles – A woman charged in the killings of six of her newborn babies made an appearance in court on Monday. As reported by AFP, bail for Megan Huntsman, 39, was set at $6 million. Police say it has been difficult understanding how she could commit the crimes.

Mike Smith, who is the police chief in Pleasant Grove, Utah, is quoted by AFP as stating that the killings were “not something that you can wrap your mind around, of how a mother could do something like this.”

Huntsman was arrested after seven infants were found dead in her home. According to police, Huntsman committed the killings over a 10-year-period after giving birth to six children. It has yet to be revealed whether the seventh infant found dead was hers.

Smith is further quoted as stating of the investigation, “We received a call and some family members were cleaning out there garage and came across a box and opened it and found what they believed to be a deceased infant… Our officers went up and confirmed that, and searched and discovered six more deceased infants that were packaged in some containers.”

According to a neighbor quoted in a Salt Lake Tribune report, Huntsman also had three older children living with her in the home.

Smith stated of continuing to search for a motive, “As far as motives goes, we are still investigating the motives to find out why this happened, how this could have happened.”
