Murrysville, Pennsylvania – A Pennsylvania high school student wounded 20 people during a knife welding attack on Monday. As reported by Reuters, police took the suspected 16-year-old attacker, who has not been identified, into custody following the incident, which occurred shortly after 7 a.m. at Franklin Regional High School.

According to Murrysville Police Chief Tom Seefeld, the school was evacuated after a fire alarm was pulled by either a staff member or student at the school.

Seefeld is quoted as stating, “What we teach is, the first thing you want the students to do is run… The fire alarm being pulled probably assisted with evacuating the school.”

At least nine of those wounded sustained serious injuries. Several students were reportedly taken to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville and admitted for their stab wounds. Some required surgery and were listed in critical condition.

An emergency message was posted on the school’s website following the attack.
