Washington – A school custodian was the first among victims of the Washington mudslide to be memorialized in funeral services held for victims. As reported by Reuters, approximately 250 people attended services in Arlington, Washington that were held for Summer Raffo, 36, approximately two weeks after the tragedy occurred.

More than two-dozen people were killed in the mudslide on March 22. Raffo’s vehicle was swept off Highway 530.

One of Raffo’s brothers is quoted as stating of her during the memorial service, “She was tough, with so many brothers… She loved animals. She was hardworking. She was dependable.”

Another victim, whose funeral was held the same weekend, Linda McPherson, 69, was found dead after the mudslide destroyed her home. She was reportedly found in debris.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s office had at the time confirmed 30 people dead, and officials said that 13 others remained unaccounted for.
