Detroit – Automaker GM is recalling a reported 1.5 million vehicles. As reported by Reuters, the company made the announcement on Monday and stated that it will take a $300 million charge.

It is unclear how much of the charge is expected to cover the costs of the recall enacted as a result of faulty ignition switches. A reported 12 deaths have been linked to the ignition-switch problem.

GM Chief Executive Mary Barra is quoted as saying in a statement of the recall, “I asked our team to redouble our efforts on our pending product reviews, bring them forward and resolve them quickly… That is what today’s GM is all about.”

Barra further noted, “We are conducting an intense review of our internal processes and will have more developments to announce as we move forward.”

GM is the number one automaker in the United States.
