New York – Several McDonald’s workers have filed lawsuits accusing the restaurant chain of engaging in illegal practices to avoid giving them their fair pay. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the lawsuits seeking class action status have been filed in three states.

As noted in the report, the suits were announced on the day President Barack Obama instructed the Labor Department to come up with rules for expanding the number of workers eligible to receive pay for overtime.

Attorneys stated during a conference call that an estimated 30,000 workers could be affected by the lawsuits, which have been filed in New York, Michigan, and California.

McDonald’s is quoted as releasing the statement regarding the allegations made in the lawsuit, “McDonald’s and our independent owner-operators share a concern and commitment to the well-being and fair treatment of all people who work in McDonald’s restaurants.”
