Washington – President Barack Obama issued a warning to Afghan leader Hamid Karzai on Tuesday citing plans to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan. As reported by AFP, the threat follows Karzai’s refusal to sign a Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA), which outlines a NATO training and terror mission for post-2014.

The statement issued by the White House is quoted as reading, “President Obama told President Karzai that because he has demonstrated that it is unlikely that he will sign the BSA, the United States is moving forward with additional contingency planning.

“Specifically, President Obama has asked the Pentagon to ensure that it has adequate plans in place to accomplish an orderly withdrawal by the end of the year should the United States not keep any troops in Afghanistan after 2014.”

As noted in the report, Obama has not ruled out; however, an agreement with the next Kabul government regarding a post-2014 mission.
