Houston, Texas – The parents of a Klein High School student have filed a defamation lawsuit against some of her classmates over an Instagram page. As reported by KHOU.com, Shellie Tingle-Esquivel said her daughter’s picture had been posted on the page called 2014 Klein Hoes along with derogatory and sexually explicit comments.

Tingle-Esquivel is quoted in the report as stating of her 16-year-old, “She was actually crying. She had her cell phone with Instagram, saying, ‘I can’t believe someone has done this to me.”

Pictures of several other students were reportedly posted on the page, which has been taken down. According to student Sara Farag, the page was left up for approximately three weeks.

Farag is quoted in the report as stating, “Everybody wants to be on there, but it’s so mean what they actually write about the people.”

Several minors have been named in the lawsuit. Tingle-Esquival is further quoted as stating of hopes that the suit will send a message, “More needs to be done, legally, more laws need to be put into place on social media bullying.”
