New Jersey – The re-election campaign of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has been subpoenaed in connection with a political payback investigation. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Christie’s campaign and the New Jersey Republican Party must comply with subpoenas issued by federal prosecutors in less than two weeks.

As noted in the report, the subpoenas to the Christie for Governor organization and the Republican State Committee were disclosed last Thursday.

A criminal investigation has been ongoing into allegations that Christie’s aides created traffic jams in a town where the mayor is a political opponent of the governor. Emails between people close to Christie furthered controversy over accusations that the traffic jams were created as payback. Four people have been fired or resigned in connection with the issue.

Some experts say that criminal charges could ultimately result from the scandal.
