Traffic scandal stirs controversy for New Jersey governor

New Jersey – New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has come under fire after emails revealing a conspiracy by top aides to create traffic jams became public. As reported by The Christian Science Monitor, some are speculating that the controversy may lead to problems for Christie for a possible 2016 presidential run.

As noted in the report, the emails revealed Christie’s aides closed access to lanes on the George Washington Bridge in retaliation for a Democratic mayor in a town nearby not voting for the New Jersey governor.

Deputy Chief of Staff Bridget Anne Kelly is quoted in the report as writing in an email to Port Authority employee and Christie associate David Wildstein, “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee.”

Christie denied involvement in the scandal, releasing a statement following the public scrutiny saying, “What I’ve seen today for the first time is unacceptable…I am outraged and deeply saddened to learn that not only was I misled by a member of my staff, but this completely inappropriate and unsanctioned conduct was made without my knowledge.”
