New York – The mother of a toddler who died after being thrown from a 52-story apartment building said she had been nervous about the child’s visits with his father. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Svetlana Kanarikov released a statement regarding the incident in which she also stated she was “heartbroken” by what happened.

Kanarikov is quoted as stating of the two previous visits in a statement issued Monday night through a lawyer, “The father never did anything violent against the child before… Both times, Kirill was happy after seeing his dad. Skype calls were also going well.”

She is further quoted as stating of her acrimonious split with 35-year-old Dmitriy Kanarikov, who threw the child from the building rooftop prior to killing himself on Sunday after picking him up from a Manhattan police precinct, “He said he would take the child away and I will ‘shoot myself from grief… This was his sick way to take Kirill away from me.”
