Colorado – Thousands of new state laws are set to take effect on January 1, including the legalization of marijuana for recreational use in Colorado. As reported by Reuters, others include a new law in Illinois prohibiting the use of a drone to interfere with fishermen or hunters.

A reported 40,000 bills and resolutions have gained approval in states across the U.S. in 2013. Although many will be implemented in January, others will not go into effect until July or other specified dates.

Allen St. Pierre, executive director for NORML, a non-profit that supports legalizing marijuana, is quoted by Reuters as stating of poll results suggesting there is a high percentage of Americans who favor legalization, “This is a fortuitous time for people who want to go forward with these initiatives.”
