Boca Raton, Florida – More changes are reportedly in store for Office Depot employees in South Florida following the company’s decision to base the headquarters in Boca Raton. As reported by the Sun Sentinel, the completion of a $1.2 billion merger with OfficeMax was a major focus of 2013 for the company.

The office supply company, which is number two in the nation, has a reported 66,000 employees.

Merger specialist Laura Kozloski Hart has stated that it was typical of companies that consolidate headquarters and other operations to make job cuts relatively quickly. Hart is quoted as stating of how many do so to avoid relocation costs, “You take good care of them, setting up outplacement services, and then [survivors] don’t feel guilty and can focus on what they have to do.”

Hart is further quoted as stating of new chief executive Roland Smith, “He has a lot to do. The new guy always has to bring in something great.”
