LA airport shooting leaves several injured, TSA agent dead

Los Angeles – A TSA agent was killed and several people were wounded during a shooting at Los Angeles International Airport. As reported by BBC News, suspected shooter 23-year-old Los Angeles resident Paul Anthony Ciancia was detained after being wounded by police.

The TSA officer killed was reported to be 39-year-old Gerardo Hernandez. According to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti the incident was the first in which a TSA officer was killed while on duty.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, affected hundreds of flights across the country.

LA Airport police chief Patrick Gannon is quoted as stating to reporters that the suspect had “pulled an assault rifle out of a bag and began to open fire in the terminal.”

Gannon further notes, “As you can imagine, a large amount of chaos took place in this entire incident.”
