Los Angeles – The doctor convicted in the death of entertainer Michael Jackson has been released from prison after serving half of his sentence of four years. As reported by Reuters, Conrad Murray was released from a jail in Los Angeles on Monday under a California state plan to reduce overcrowding in its prisons.

Murray was convicted of manslaughter after administering to Jackson a lethal dose of anesthetic. His six-week trial garnered international media attention.

Murray’s attorney Valerie Wass, is quoted by Reuters as stating prior to the release of her client, “He’s prepared to keep fighting this as long as it takes.” According to Wass, Murray wants to practice medicine again following his release.

Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50.
