Pennsylvania – Republican Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett compared gay marriage to marriage between two siblings in a recent interview. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Corbett made the remark during an interview Friday morning with TV news show WHP-TV in Harrisburg.

When an anchor questioned Corbett about a statement made by his attorneys in a recent court filing, in which marriage between same-sex couples was compared to the marriage of children, he reportedly replied, “It was an inappropriate analogy, you know… I think a much better analogy would have been brother and sister, don’t you?”

The remarked sparked controversy with proponents of gay marriage calling them “shocking and hurtful.”

Corbett is quoted by the AP as later issuing the statement regarding his remarks, “I explained that current Pennsylvania statute delineates categories of individuals unable to obtain a marriage license… As an example, I cited siblings as one such category, which is clearly defined in state law. My intent was to provide an example of these categories.”
