Australia – A man died after being snatched by a crocodile while swimming in Australia’s outback. As reported by The Christian Science Monitor, the 26-year-old was attending a birthday party at the Mary River Wilderness Retreat when the incident occurred.

The man swam across the river with another man in the notorious reptile habitat.

Senior Sergeant Geoff Bahnert is quoted in the report as stating, “Several of the group in the party witnessed the male being taken in the jaws of the croc for a period of time, and then he was out of sight.”

Teams searched for remains following the attack according to the officer.

Bahnert is further quoted as stating, “The Mary River is known worldwide to have the greatest saturation of adult saltwater crocodiles in the world. You don’t swim in the Mary River.”
