Judge Judy son files lawsuit against sheriff

New York – The son of TV’s Judge Judy has filed a lawsuit against a local sheriff for purported defamation. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Putnam County District Attorney Adam Levy filed the case against county Sheriff Donald Smith Wednesday, claiming he defamed him with allegations that the prosecutor had interfered in a child rape case.

The sheriff has denied the allegations of defamation and implied that the lawsuit was timed for political purposes and intended to damage his campaign for re-election.

The matter reportedly stems from a case brought against Levy’s former personal trainer Alexandru Hossu, who was accused of child rape. Levy recused himself after learning Hossu was placed under investigation; however, Smith alleged he maintained improper involvement in the case.

Levy’s mother, retired Family Court judge and star of the court reality show “Judge Judy” Judith Sheindlin, is quoted by the AP as issuing the statement about her son on Wednesday, “His moral compass is dead center… When someone attacks his character professionally or personally they best be prepared to back it up — shut up — or pay up.”
