Huntington Beach, CA – One person was treated for injuries after a fight broke out following a popular surf contest in California. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), over 100 officers responded to the scene in Huntington Beach after the U.S. Open of Surfing event when a raucous crowd began smashing car windows, throwing items, and toppling portable toilets on a popular strip downtown.

Huntington Beach police Lt. Mitchell O’Brien is quoted by the AP as stating of the incident, “Any time you have thousands of people put together like this, you have the potential for things to go wrong.”

Several people were arrested in connection with the incident, with one person who had allegedly hit an officer with a skateboard being investigated for assault with a deadly weapon.
