Los Angeles – A dog owner has been charged with murder after his four pit bulls mauled and killed a jogger. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), charges were brought against Alex Jackson, 29, after DNA linked his dogs to the gruesome attack in which Pamela Devitt, 63, was bitten 150 to 200 times.

Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore is quoted by the AP as stating of the test results, “The DNA came back with blood on the dogs that matched the victim’s blood.”

The charge of murder in a dog bite case is not typical, although fatalities in these cases are also rare. Additional reports of Jackson’s dogs attacking other individuals had reportedly been made earlier in the year. Jackson was arrested following Devitt’s May 9th death, but released pending the DNA results. He is currently being held on $1 million bail.
