Ohio – A teacher who was fired for being unmarried and pregnant testified in a discrimination trial on Wednesday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Christa Dias filed a lawsuit against the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati and the schools after being terminated, testifying Wednesday that she did not know she had violated the church doctrine or could lose her job over the pregnancy.

Dias, who is in a lesbian relationship, conceived the child through artificial insemination, which the archdiocese’s human resources director, William Hancock says violates the church doctrine. Hancock is quoted by the AP as stating, “She made a choice against the five contracts she signed.”

Dias was fired in 2010. She is seeking the recovery of lost wages and additional damages in the lawsuit.
