New York – A judge tossed out manslaughter charges against a New York police officer accused in the fatal shooting of an unarmed man. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Judge Steven Barrett ruled Wednesday in favor of Officer Richard Haste who was accused of killing 18-year-old Ramarley Graham at his home during a police operation.

Graham was reportedly unarmed when he was shot at close range after being chased into his family’s apartment in the Bronx.

Barrett is quoted by the AP as stating of his decision, “I regret that there are people who are hurt by this… In effect, the grand jury was told communications of other officers were not relevant… With no great pleasure, I’m obliged in this case to dismiss the charges.”

Prosecutors have stated they would appeal the ruling or make another presentation of the case to the grand jury.
