Cincinnati – An Ohio student shot himself in front of other students in his first-period class at an all-male Catholic high school. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the incident occurred at La Salle High School on Monday.

The student’s condition was reported to be critical hours after his purported suicide attempt according to a University of Cincinnati Medical Center spokeswoman.

No other students were reportedly injured and several called 911 as events were unfolding.

Greg Tankersley, La Salle’s director of community development, is quoted by the AP as stating of the student, “We just ask that you pray for him and his family… It’s a tragic situation for this young man.”

Classes were set to resume at the school on Tuesday.
