Dallas – American Airlines is reportedly set to file a plan for reorganization. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), documents were filed Monday by the major airline and US Airways that outline previous negotiations and plans of a potential merger between the two.

American filed for bankruptcy protection in 2011 months after US Airways began studying prospective plans for the merger.

Doug Parker, CEO of US Airways Group Inc., is reportedly expected to run the combined company.

US Airways officials are quoted by the AP as stating in a memo to employees regarding the filings Monday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and a bankruptcy court in New York, “With these materials filed, we are one step closer to completing the merger, which we expect to occur in the third quarter of this year.”
