Washington – Thousands of protestors gathered across the U.S. Wednesday to rally for immigration reform. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), immigrants and activists organized rallies in an effort to press Congress to approve measures making the pathway to citizenship plausible for millions of immigrants currently living in the country illegally.

Ben Monterroso, national director of civic participation of the Service Employees International Union, is quoted by the AP as stating of the efforts, “We won’t win immigration reform just coming to Washington. We need to walk the streets all over the country.”

President Barack Obama addressed the issue of immigration reform, calling for a quick passage of related measures in his State of the Union address in February.
