San Francisco, CA – A state panel has recommended that an oil tanker pilot’s license be suspended or revoked after the tanker side-swiped the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the California Board of Pilot Commissioners’ Incident Review Committee’s recommendation was contained in a report about the incident, which occurred on Jan. 7.

The pilot of the 752-foot Overseas Reymar, Guy Kleess, reportedly changed course just prior to hitting bridge, which damaged the wooden fenders of the tower. No injuries were reported in connection with the ship accident.

An investigation into the incident is reportedly also underway by the U.S. Coast Guard.
