Los Angeles – Nadya Suleman, who was infamously dubbed “Octomom” after giving birth to octuplets in 2009 is being investigated for welfare fraud. As reported by the Huffington Post, Suleman is stated to have been reported to the Los Angeles County Department of Welfare Fraud Prevention and Investigation by an unnamed person who alleged she collects public assistance despite having made an estimated $200,000 last year.

A source close to Suleman is quoted in the report as stating to E! News of the investigation, “I can confirm that the authorities have been in contact with us concerning her income and we have been cooperating.”

As noted in the report Suleman, who has six children in addition to the set of octuplets, is able to collect welfare if her income is less than $119,000 in a year under California law.
