Newark, NJ – A New Jersey defense lawyer with a list of celebrity clients has been convicted of racketeering. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a jury found Paul Bergrin, who is also a former prosecutor, guilty on 23 counts in connection with the purported racketeering enterprise.

As noted in the report, one of the charges is for murder and carries a mandatory life sentence. Bergrin represented himself in the trial.

U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman, who formerly worked briefly alongside Bergrin as an assistant U.S. attorney in New Jersey, is quoted by the AP as stating of the verdict, “I take no joy from this verdict…But his conduct over many years was a betrayal of his law enforcement colleagues and of the court.”
