Detroit, Michigan – Michael Winans Jr. of the legendary Winans gospel music family has been sentenced in connection with a purported $8 million financial scam. As reported by The Christain Science Monitor, Winans, 30, was sentenced to 14 years in prison after collecting money from investors for Saudi Arabian oil bonds that turned out to be bogus.

Two victims of the scam reportedly testified in federal court about the fraud, which attracted over 1,000 investors and was stated to have led to serious financial and personal problems for many victims.

Winans is quoted in the report as stating of his actions, “I want to apologize to everyone. … These were decisions that were negligent and irresponsible.”
