Pretoria, South Africa – Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius, 26, has been charged in the shooting death of his model girlfriend. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Pistorius was arrested in connection with the Valentine’s Day shooting on Thursday after Reeva Steenkamp, 30, was killed at his villa in South Africa.
It was not made clear at the time of the report what prompted the shooting.
Pistorius’ father, Henke Pistorius, is quoted by the AP as stating of the incident on Thursday, “We all pray for guidance and strength for Oscar and the lady’s parents.”
As noted in the report, South Africa is stated to have the second highest shooting death rate across the globe.
