Taft, CA – One student was reportedly wounded in a shooting at a California high school on Thursday. As reported by The Lookout, the suspected gunman, a 16-year-old male Taft Union high school student entered his first-period classroom with a 12-gauge shotgun and shot a fellow student he was stated to have been targeting.

The 16-year-old victim was reportedly taken to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, California with a chest gunshot wound and later listed in stable but critical condition.

The shooter was taken into police custody after being persuaded by school officials to put down the weapon. Authorities are investigating the incident.

Classes for Friday at the high school have been cancelled.
