New York – A mechanical problem forced a United 787 Dreamliner flight to make an emergency landing after being diverted mid-flight. As reported by Reuters, the mechanical issue occurred during a flight from Houston to Newark while 184 people were aboard Flight 1146.

The production of the 787 planes has reportedly increased after an extensive delay; however, flight diversions and other issues may raise safety concerns, according to some.

Carter Leake, a former military and commercial pilot and analyst with BB&T Capital Markets, is quoted by Reuters as stating of flight diversions and new planes, “These are the typical growing pains one would expect with a new airplane as it enters service… No conclusions can be drawn.”
