Stamford, Connecticut – A $4 million settlement agreement has been reached in a case involving a chimpanzee attack that left a woman disfigured. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the agreement calls for the estate of the now deceased owner of the chimp, Sandra Herold, to pay a $4 million settlement in a lawsuit filed on behalf of Charla Nash for the 2009 attack.

Nash was reportedly blinded in addition to losing her hands and undergoing a face transplant following the incident that took place outside of Herold’s home.

Charles Willinger, an attorney for the Nashes, is quoted by the AP as stating of plans to pursue further civil action, “The money that we have obtained for Charla is an insignificant amount in the scheme of things…It won’t nearly address her medical needs and her other lifestyle needs, not to mention pain and suffering. That is why we will pursue the entity we think is most culpable, the Energy and Environmental Protection Department of Connecticut, for allowing Sandra Herold to possess the chimp in the first place.”
