Suspected shoplifter dies after scuffle outside Walmart

Lithonia, GA – A scuffle outside of a Walmart between a suspected shoplifter and a security guard left the suspect dead over the weekend. As reported by CBS Atlanta, the man accused of shoplifting two DVD players in the early hours of Sunday morning, was pronounced dead after being taken to DeKalb Medical-Hillandale Hospital following the incident.

Walmart spokeswoman, Dianna Gee, is quoted in the report as stating of the matter, “This is truly a sad situation. We’re in the process of working with law enforcement to determine all of the facts and cooperating and providing any information we have to assist in the investigation. Our associates are trained that the safety of our customers and our associates is our first priority. No amount of merchandise is worth someone’s life.”

Authorities are reportedly still making the determination of whether to charge the security guard in connection with the incident.
