Buffalo, NY – A teen sustained multiple injuries in a hit and run accident after a car driving toward a group of people walking in the street ran into him. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the accident involving 18-year-old Victor Jerez of Buffalo was caught on video surveillance and shows Jerez being flung into midair after being hit by the vehicle.

Two men, who were also walking in the street, can be seen on the video footage along with Jerez attempting to run onto the sidewalk and out of the way of the approaching vehicle. The two men other were not hit. The driver in the hit and run accident was subsequently arrested shortly after the early Thursday morning accident.

Mayor Byron Brown is quoted by the AP as stating of releasing the video footage in a news conference held on Monday, “The footage is extremely graphic… The purpose for showing this video footage is to dramatize how dangerous hit and run accidents are.”

Jerez has reportedly been released from the hospital after being treated for his injuries.
