Corpus Christi, TX — A four-vehicle accident, involving a prison transport bus, injured seven people on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at I-37 near Rand Morgan, reported Kristv.com.

According to reports, the prisoner transport bus was following too closely behind traffic when it hit a pickup truck, which pushed it into two other cars.

Responding emergency crews rushed two prisoners and three prison guards to an area hospital for medical treatment. Two others were also transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries. The injuries are reportedly “minor.”

The identities of those injured in the crash are being withheld at this time.

The bus was transporting 31 prisoners at the time of the wreck. The uninjured prisoners were picked up by a replacement bus that transported them to a prison in Beeville—their intended destination.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation. The bus driver will likely be cited for following too closely.

Investigations into the multiple-vehicle accident are underway.
