Maytag Corp., voluntarily recalls 1.6 million electrical hazard fridges.

San Francisco, CA (JusticeNewsFlash.com)–As reported by the Associated Press(AP), Maytag Corp., based in Newton, Iowa has recalled 1.6 million refrigerators. The U.S. Consumer Product and Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov states the refrigerators pose an overheating problem in the electrical system that turns on the compressor. This overheating poses a serious fire hazard.

The CPSC asserts the recall involves a long list of fridge names including, Jenn-Air, Amana, Admiral, Magic Chef, Maytag, Performa by Maytag and Crosley. Side by side and top freezer refrigerators are included in the recall and were sold from January 2001 through January 2004 at nationwide department stores, appliance retailers and homebuilders. There have been 16 reported incidents of smoke damage to major kitchen damage from the faulty refrigerators according to Maytag.
