10 Students Hospitalized in Prince George’s County School Bus Accident

Prince George’s County, MD — A school bus accident sent 10 students to the hospital Monday, October 24, 2011, when a SUV rear-ended the bus at a red light. The rear-end collision occurred in the 4800 block of Temple Hills Road at about 8:25 a.m. in Temple Hills, reported the Washington Post.

Prince George’s County police reported that the school bus was taking the students to Thurgood Marshall Middle School when it stopped at a red traffic light. While at the light, a SUV plowed into the back of the bus, leaving 10 students with neck and back injuries.

Responding emergency crews transported the 10 injures students to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

It is unknown at this time if the bus driver was injured as well.

The driver of the SUV fled the scene on foot following the crash, and police have yet to locate the driver. Police have not revealed if they have identified the driver through the vehicle’s registration.

The school bus crash is still under investigation.
