Washington, D.C. — A class-action lawsuit may be imminent for General Mills over the company’s marketing claims that suggest its sugary fruit snacks are healthy, reported the Huffington Post.

Nutrition advocacy group, Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), is planning to file the lawsuit on allegations that the packaging for Fruit By The Foot, Fruit Roll-Ups, and Fruit Gushers claim the snacks are “a good source of vitamin C” and are “low fat.” The packaging phrases implies to consumers that these products help to promote good health, when in actuality they are full of high-fructose corn syrup, preservatives and trans fats.

Others assert that it is possible that the labels are technically correct, but the problem is that some parents don’t understand that “low fat” and “low calorie” doesn’t mean that the product is nutritious.

General Mills has not yet been served with a lawsuit from the CSPI.
