Newport News, VA — A collision on Interstate 64, near Jefferson Avenue, has left two tow truck drivers dead. The fatal automobile accident occurred on the right shoulder of I-64 at about 7 a.m., Wednesday morning, June 1, 2011, reported PilotOnline.com.

According to Virginia State Police, a tow truck driver from Superior Towing was called to help a disabled driver on the side of the I-64, when he was hit while loading the vehicle on the flat bed by another tow truck driver.

The second tow truck driver reportedly lost control and sideswiped the first truck and the operator, throwing him into the air. The second tow truck rolled onto its roof and slid across all four lanes of traffic before coming to a stop.

Responding emergency medical crews pronounced both truck drivers dead at the scene of the accident. Their identities are currently being withheld.

The driver of the disabled vehicle saw the second tow truck heading their way and ran for an embankment for safety.

The second tow truck driver reportedly worked for Big Boy’s Towing and Recovery in Hampton.

Investigations into the fatal crash are underway.
