Portland, OR — A father and his 2-year-old daughter were separated on Saturday, April 30, 2011, when a MAX train left the Mississippi Avenue station with his daughter on board, while he was loading a bike trailer, reported KGW.com.
According to officials, Kevin James was out on a bike ride with his daughter when he decided to take MAX’s Yellow Line. James was pulling a stroller-trailer, which attaches to the bike.
When the MAX trailer arrived at the station, James put his bike and his daughter on board the train, and then proceeded to put the stroller part on the train when the doors closed and the train pulled away from the station.
James tried to stop the doors from shutting with his hands, but he eventually had to give up. He claimed he pushed both the yellow button to open the door and the blue one for handicapped riders.
The conductor apparently didn’t realize what was going on and continued to pull away from the station.
James called 911 and officials were able to get the train to stop at the next station, where he was reunited with his daughter.
Investigations into the incident are underway.
