Calif. man killed in wood-chipper accident at avocado grove in Rainbow

Rainbow, CA—An avocado grove caretaker was killed in a work-related accident on Tuesday, December 14, 2010. The fatal wood-chipper accident occurred around 3:20 p.m., on the avocado grove property at Moon Ridge Road, as reported by Sign On San Diego.

The victim, Martimiano Morales Carreon, 49, of Rainbow was working with his adult son, while clearing trees on the property when the accident occurred. Carreon reportedly used his foot to push a large pile of branchsd through the commercial chipper, when his foot became caught in the brush and was pulled into the chipper.

Carreon’s son stopped the wood-chipper and pulled him father from the machinery. Carreon sustained major trauma to his lower body as a result.

Responding fire department paramedics rushed to the scene where they pronounced Carreon dead at 3:40 p.m.

Officials with Cal/OSHA will be investigating the work-related accident.
