Arlington, VA—A seven-story fall from a hotel in Arlington County left a construction worker dead Wednesday morning, July 21, 2010. The fatal accident occurred at the Arlington Court Suites, reports The Washington Post.

A 35-year-old worker was reportedly installing a balcony railing in a room at the hotel, when he somehow plummeted five stories before crashing through a two-story glass atrium located at the front of the building. Emergency rescue crews were called to scene where they pronounced the worker dead at the scene of the accident.

The identity of the worker is currently being withheld. But officials said Hallmark Iron Works, a Newington, Va.—based manufacturer of metal railings and stairways, employed the worker. He was apparently a long-time employee.

Arlington police and officials with the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry are conducting an investigation into the industrial accident.

It is unknown what caused the worker to plummet to his death.
