Los Angeles, CA—Some 992 cases of Señor Mexicano™ Avocado Pulp has been recalled by J. Hellman Frozen Foods, Inc. because of a potential threat of Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall on July 8, 2010.
The FDA stated, “Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
The recall involves Señor Mexicano™ Avocado Pulp, 2lbs bags (UPC Code 7 503012 650001) with the following Lot number: A 21 04 10 / A 21 04 12. The recalled product was distributed in California and Hawaii.
At this time there have been no illnesses reported in connection with this recall. All retailers have been notified to remove his product from store shelves.
