Product liability lawyers alerts- Shelled hazelnuts and shelled organic hazelnuts were recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Portland, OR—The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) http://www.fda.gov/ announced that Willamette Filbert Growers is recalling 29,861 lbs of shelled hazelnuts and shelled organic hazelnuts due to a potential threat of Salmonella contamination. The Newburg, Oregon company recalled the products on Thursday, December 17, 2009, as reported by the FDA.

Salmonella was discovered in one production lot at the same facility as the Willamette Filbert Grower’s hazelnuts were shelled. In keeping consumers health and safety a number one priority, Willamette Filbert Growers has recalled all shelled hazelnuts and shelled organic hazelnuts, which were processed from October 12, 2009 until November 25, 2009. The recalled products were distributed through wholesalers and direct delivery in Oregon and California. The unshelled hazelnuts were not included in this recall. All recalled products were packaged in 25 lbs corrugated boxes with the Willamette Filbert Growers or Meridian Organic Hazelnuts label, and with lost code number 289091A and 311091A. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the product. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, which are characterized by fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. The infection is particularly dangerous in young children, elderly, or people with weakened immune systems.

Anyone who has purchased the recalled product is urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. If you have any questions, please contact Ben Mitchell at (503) 538-9256, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., PST.
