Occupational Health & Safety Administration alerts Georgia construction accident lawyer- A collapsed trench at a Habitat for Humanity construction site turned fatal.

Atlanta, GA—A worker was pronounced dead after being trapped for more than four hours in a collapsed trench. The fatal construction accident happened while he was doing some plumbing work on Thursday afternoon, October 15, 2009 in the 2700 block of Seventh Street at Habitat for Humanity home, as reported by WSBTV.

A worker was reportedly putting in a sewer line at the Habitat for Humanity home when the ground gave way and the 10-foot-deep trench collapsed onto him. Responding rescue teams uncovered the worker under 5-feet of dirt after more than four hours.

Police investigators believe that recent heavy rain had loosened the soil, which prompted it to collapse on top of the worker. The worker was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency medical services (EMS) teams. Apparently a second worker was trapped in the collapse, but he was rescued safely. It is unknown if the second trapped worker sustained injuries in the collapse. Police officials have not released the identities of the deceased worker or the other worker involved in the accident at this time. Officials with the federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) http://www.osha.gov/ are conducting a thorough investigation into the fatal construction accident.
