VISTA (CNS) – A total of 298 weapons were exchanged for gift cards or skateboards at the Guns For Gift Cards event held by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Bureau on Sunday.

According to sheriff officials, the event was held at the Vista Court complex at 325 South Melrose Avenue.

Participants received a $100 pistol, rifle, and shotgun gift card or a $200 assault weapon gift card. They can also replace unwanted weapons with new skateboards. Officials said that by the end of the event, about 20 skateboards were distributed.

These weapons will be inspected to see if they are involved in crime. If any guns are found to be stolen, the original owner will be contacted.

The sheriff’s officials said that all remaining weapons will be destroyed.
