What did Biden say when signing the bill?

“Great nations will not ignore the most painful moments. They will not ignore those moments in the past. They embrace them,” Biden said in a speech in the East Room on June 17.

Biden said this is one of the greatest honors he will receive as president after signing the legislation.

“By making June Day a federal holiday, all Americans can feel the power of this day, learn from our history, celebrate progress and fight the distance we have traveled,” he said.

“Great nations will not ignore the most painful moments. They will not ignore those moments in the past. They embrace them. Great nations will not go away.”

Biden added that as a country, there is still work to be done to “deliver on the promise of equality,” adding that the liberation of enslaved black Americans is not the end of this work, but the beginning.

We have seen such attacks from restrictive laws, threats of intimidation, voter cleansing, etc. “

“An attack that offends democracy, our democracy. We can’t rest until each of us has fulfilled the promise of equality in every corner of this country. To me, this is the meaning of June Festival,” the president added .
