Guidelines for reopening COVID-19: what each province can do and when

With the continuous promotion of the COVID-19 vaccine across Canada, provinces have formulated tentative plans to reopen everything from indoor dining to personal services to stadiums and casinos.

Some provinces have been widely opened and have capacity restrictions, including New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

In other parts of Canada, including provinces that are still under lockdown, the phased reopening plan is related to the vaccination of a certain percentage of the population.

The timetable for entering the further opening phase varies from province to province, but it is also related to the level of vaccines and keeps the number of cases and hospitalizations stable or down.

Criteria for entering phase 1

British Columbia: Among people over 18 years of age, at least 60% have received a dose of the vaccine, and have received a stable number of cases and hospitalization for COVID-19.
Alberta: Two weeks after 50% of Alberta children over 12 years of age received a dose of the vaccine, the hospitalization rate was below 800 and showed a downward trend.
Saskatchewan: The stage will be implemented through public health orders, and the time will be determined by the spread of evidence.
Manitoba: There is currently no reopening plan.
Ontario: 60% of adults received a single dose of the vaccine, in addition to improving key public health and healthcare indicators, including the COVID-19 positive rate and hospitalization rate.
Quebec: Now begin to gradually relax the restrictions; the changes made on June 25 will require 75% of people over the age of 12 to receive the first dose of the vaccine.

Nova ScotiaThe reopening plan is expected on Friday.

Prince Edward Island A lot of capacity restrictions have been opened to a large extent.The province will start A five-step plan that will be fully open on June 6. Certain public health and travel measures will continue to be in place until 80% of eligible island residents are fully immunized, herd protection is achieved, and the threat posed by the virus is reduced.

Canada-U.S. border

In addition to plans to reopen within Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was asked on Thursday when the border with the United States might be reopened. He said that the dialogue is ongoing.

Trudeau said: “All parties are eager to return to normal.” He added that the key to achieving this goal is to “raise the national vaccination rate to more than 75%.”
