New York – Four people charged in connection with a fatal car crash in New York have pleaded not guilty in the case. The Associated Press reported that the crash stemmed from a high-speed race along a parkway in suburban New York. The fiery crash resulted in the deaths of two children and their father.

Prosecutors have said that one of the drivers, Oniel Sharpe Jr., was driving at more than 100 mph and intoxicated at the time of the July 12 crash. He crashed into a vehicle that was transporting a family of four, which subsequently burst into flames.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said of Sharpe and some of his friends “At the time when dying people needed help the most, the defendants, some of them, literally stood by watching the Ostane family — children and dad — perish.”

Prosecutors also allege that 23 fraudulent credit cards were found hidden in Sharpe’s vehicle. Sharpe pleaded not guilty to charges in a 41-count indictment through his attorney.
